Louis XIV style secretary - 19th c. Italian Emilia walnut and burl veneered cabinet. The Italian term to describe this particular kind piece of furniture is ‘Ribalta’ because of the drop off top. It was used to serve both as a chest of drawers and as writing desk, keeping the letters safely storage by locking the top.
